East PDX Bridge Wants Travel Fairness

As the blog entry posted a few days ago suggests ODOT SEIU members are getting shafted on the travel policy. Management asserted it has been this way for decades so obviously theres not a problem. Today East PDX said they disagree and wanted to send the message to Salem.

Great job pdx for stepping up. What do you and all the other members of our local feel about having our own colors. I personally feel that odot don't look good in purple.I think it would be cool to have our own identity and i think alot of members would dig it. I think members might take more ownership in "our local" if we had something like that. I'm going to be blunt here, let's face it most of our members do not feel there's alot in common between us and seiu and seiu knows it. There's alot of apathy in odot when it comes to union activity and i can't help think this is the reason. I know we are all proud of the way we take care of our highways and the traveling public let's take pride in our local 730 also. Let us not forget that our predecessers started this in 1943 let's get to work and get highway workers united.

Thanks EPdx for taking a stand on the travel inequity issue. In order for us to convince management that same old, same old is no good, we need to keep sending these pictures and messages. Ever since I started in Financial Services, I knew this was an area that needs fixing for all members, but especially the folks who work on our roads and freeways and only get $8 a day for non-overnight travel and $47 a day for overnight per diem. If we all stick together, we can win this important fight for all of us.
